Doodle Bird Tiny Toadstool Terrarium

Doodle Bird Designs on Etsy is giving away her

Teeny Tiny Toadstool Terrarium

My name is Patricia Buzo, and I am owned by my perfect little feathered baby Nani – a Black Headed Caique parrot. I had owned my own mural painting business for 8 years. However, after a a shoulder injury I was no longer able to do large scale work and needed to come up with something new. After purchasing a small terrarium I decided to try making another, then another. Pretty soon I listed them here on Etsy and the rest is history. I thoroughly enjoy the great outdoors and working with live plants. I’m overjoyed that I have found something to be excited about once again. (and of course Nani loves to be outside with me as much as possible, she’s my little helper)

I can’t seem to stick to just one thing, so I invite you to check back often for new curiosities and creations I come up with.

Please visit my Doodle Bird Blog at http://caiqueclowns.blogspot.com/ to read about life with a Caique, including videos and photos of my silly bird!

Mom’s Monday-Alice in Wonderland Pop Up

01 Feb, 2010 by in robert sabuda, simon schuster Leave a comment

Hardcover: 12 pages
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Children’s;
New edition edition (3 Nov 2003)
ISBN-10: 0689837593
4 stars
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is Robert Sabuda’s most amazing creation ever, featuring stunning pop-ups illustrated in John Tenniel’s classic style. The text is faithful to Lewis Carroll’s original story, and special effects like a Victorian peep show, multifaceted foil, and tactile elements make this a pop-up to read and admire again and again.
My father gave this to my children for Christmas because our family adores pop up books. My kids would spend hours looking through all of the surprises in here. There are even little books placed within the book to pull out and read. You will feel like you are right in the forest as green trees burst from the first scene. The cover is sturdy, but the pages are very fragile and not for young children! A great gift for fans of the classic Lewis Carroll tale!

Summary from Goodreads

Lost and alone…down the rabbit hole

Years have passed since Alice lost her mother to cancer, but time hasn’t quite healed the wound. Alice copes the best she can, by writing her music, losing herself in the love of her boyfriend, and distancing herself from her father and his new wife.

But when a deadly snowstorm traps Alice with her stepmother and newborn half-sister, she’ll face issues she’s been avoiding for too long. As Alice looks to the heavens for guidance, she discovers something wonderful.

Perhaps she’s not so alone after all

WOW. Is all I can say…
I picked up this book at my local library and started it earlier today. The entire book is written in prose. Each chapter a new poem. For me, it was a nice break from the every day writing style we are used to. I finished it in a couple of hours because I couln’t put it down.
Alice deals with the grief over losing her mother to cancer, adjustment to a new family dynamic, doubts of faith, and near tragedy. It is a beautifully rich yet down to earth and raw look at what it feels like to lose someone and have them replaced by new and strange people. I think it is a great read for any teen who has gone through trying to adjust to a new step-parent, or the loss of a parent. Alice also struggles with the question of abstinence and it is handled by her boyfriend Blaze in a mature and loving manner. I love that she held on to that belief and was supported in her decision.
The story touched at heart strings as Alice feels enveloped in a comfort and peace that is not of this world. She feels her life has been touched by an angel in the moments she struggles to save the life of her newborn half-sister. I was brought to tears by the encompassing process of healing and hope.
An absolute Gem. Five out of five stars!
