Photography Friday- Doc Martin Pool Party

20 Jun, 2014 by in Heather Gardner Photography, photography, photography friday, photos 1 comment

photography friday at fire and ice

One of my favorite things to do is get behind the lens of a camera. Last night I was hired to cover the Doc Martin summer pool party. Dr. Adam Martin puts on this great event each year. Water + sun + a giant slide + loads of fun. I spotted some great action and portraits of swimmers. Water photography is a blast! If your phone or browser does not support flash, view my faves of the day on SmugMug

Thanks so my friend Kara and her husband for another great shoot!

P.S. Are you an author, blogger or librarian in need of a new profile pic or author photo?

I will be heading to Vegas for ALA and I am currently booking mini sessions for the event. One 30 minute shoot plus custom edited images for $50. Email me for details.

Photography Friday – Air Force National Guard Engagements

I had an amazing opportunity yesterday to capture some engagement and family photos for an Air Force National Guard officer and his soon-to-be bride. We took a bus out to the tarmac for  a close up with the planes. I truly admire our troops and the sacrifice they make for our country. Being on base again reminded me of my childhood, since my father was a colonel in the Army and I grew up on several military bases.

Best wishes to this beautiful couple and their family! I can’t wait to shoot the wedding.

I’m bringing back my Photography Friday meme in 2014. Most of you probably know that I’m also a freelance photographer at Heather Gardner Photography. Last year two of my author photos were published in YA books *squee* with more to come in 2014.

I shoot mostly weddings, families and author photos with a Nikon D40 and D5200 and have my i phone handy at all time for instagram fun.  I also sell artsy print in two shops on etsy. Since I’m totally a visual person  and want a way to share photos with you readers every once in a while!

Photography Friday- Instagram Fun

02 Sep, 2011 by in photography Leave a comment

One of my favorite new features of photography is the ability to take photos wherever I am on the spot with my iphone then change them with vintage filters and frames. Instagram is a great and free application to help get you started. It allows you to share your photos with twitter and facebook friends as well as browse the most popular iphoneography from around the world. I love to make new photo friends, so come find me at fireicephotos. If you are an instagram user, leave your user name below and let’s swap inspiring images! What are some of your favorite photo programs?

Introducing Illustrator Asja Boros

18 Feb, 2010 by in photography 13 comments

Our spotlight today is on Children’s Illustrator Asja Boros. I found her art on Flickr where she posts book pages and photos as part of the 365 project to post a photo a day. It is whimsical and detailed…I would love to live in her imagination for a day because her work is stunning

Here’s what she had to say in our interview...

“I was born in Vukovar , small town in eastern Croatia.
I’ve graduated from Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, Croatia, and I majored in animation.
Right now, I don’t have much time to pursue any hobbies, but I love being outdoors , so whenever I can, I go hiking or at least go for a long walk.
I know this is not a very original answer but my all-time favorite book would probably be The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien.
I started drawing more seriously when I was 18, and I first got published when I was 21, one of my illustrations was published in Croatian daily newspaper, Jutarnji List.
Some suggestions I would give to young illustrators are to draw a lot, whenever and where ever they can, not to be too critical of themselves and to have as much fun as possible.
I’ve been full time freelance illustrator since the beginning of this year, although I occasionally work as a photographer. too. So I guess photography/photo retouching is my another day job 🙂
Alternative rock would probably be my favorite music genre , although I enjoy all kinds of music. I love both music and art but I find the biggest inspiration for my work in nature , in patterns and shapes occurring in nature and since I love drawing animal characters, in animal world.
Currently I’m working on a picture book about a little fox and his friends.
My all time favorite children’s book would be Ježeva kućica by Branko Ćopić. It’s a story about a hedgehog who loves his home. I learned how to draw by practicing a lot”
