Breview: Heart wrenching book set in the Jim Crow South. There are some beautiful moments about love. The violence endured by the main characters is devastating. I cried. The author creates a hopeful ending to a horrible past.
Content and trigger warnings: sexual abuse of a child, lynching, racial violence, swearing, sex scene. Mature read.

Kara Lee Corthron is a playwright, author, and TV writer based in Los Angeles.
