Book Expo America 2013 Photos and Recap

05 Jun, 2013 by in bea, NYC 2 comments

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug
Katie B from Mundie Moms, me and Tahereh Mafi author of Shatter Me.

What a whirlwind that is BEA! HarperCollins and City of Bones Cassie Clare parties, book signings, the exhibit hall and NYC. This is my second year attending and each year I learn something new. My suggestions for the future are to wear comfortable shoes, pick up only what you think you will read, and plan ahead. This year my focus was on mostly Children’s picture books and a few select YA/ adult titles.
My book boxes have already arrived from the Post Office at Penn Station and I will posting a video with them tomorrow. Media mail is the way to go if you want to save money shipping. But be prepared to haul your suitcase of books up many many stairs!

For now I hope you enjoy these photos I took. See the descriptions on my twitter, instagram and tumblr feeds as well as on Facebook for Heather Gardner Photography.  (If you are an author, blogger or publicist and want a copy, please email me as these photos are copyrighted and may not be copied or shared without permission from the photographer Heather Zahn Gardner.)

The most amazing part? The TMI Cassie Clare party hosed by Simon & Schuster. Click here to see the full photo album.

Hope to see you next year! Thanks so much to Book Expo America for another great event.

Fire and Ice is happy to announce we will be attending BEA again this year! I would love to meet as many of you as possible so comment below if you are going.

What should I definitely see while in New York? (Last time I loved Central Park and the Met!)

During her stay there Heather Gardner Photography is offering mini photo sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Heather’s author photos have been published in books Angela Corbett, and Nichole Giles.

Another of her author photos of  poet Jacqueline Osherow will be published in 2014. As well, her custom book trailer stills were used for bestselling author Michelle Zink’s Circle of Fire trailer.

Pricing for NYC mini sessions

Authors are $75 for an hour outdoors, a web album and CD of finished images, plus print rights to the photos

Bloggers and media $50 for a mini session including 10 professionally finished photos to use for a profile photo.

If you live in New York and want a full family sitting, I do offer family photography. See my site for pricing.
Contact fireandice.heather@gmail.com to book a session. And I will see you in The Big Apple!

Books I’d Wait in Line For at BEA 2012

06 Jun, 2012 by in bea 4 comments

I personally won’t be at BEA this year due to a brand newborn baby boy and the recent passing of my mother. However, my reviewer Margie ( AKA: Bumble Girl) will be there representing Fire and Ice. These are the books I would wait in line for if I were with her. Click on the book title to learn more about each one. And for those of you at BEA, have fun.  Miss you!
I’ll see everyone else at ALA Anaheim in a few weeks.

Perfect
by Ellen Hopkins
Hardcover, 544 pages
Expected publication:

September 13th 2011
by Margaret K. McElderry
ISBN1416983244

series: Impulse #2

Everyone has something, someone, somewhere else that they’d rather be. For four high-school seniors, their goals of perfection are just as different as the paths they take to get there.

Cara’s parents’ unrealistic expectations have already sent her twin brother Conner spiraling toward suicide. For her, perfect means rejecting their ideals to take a chance on a new kind of love. Kendra covets the perfect face and body—no matter what surgeries and drugs she needs to get there. To score his perfect home run—on the field and off—Sean will sacrifice more than he can ever win back. And Andre realizes to follow his heart and achieve his perfect performance, he’ll be living a life his ancestors would never understand.

Everyone wants to be perfect, but when perfection loses its meaning, how far will you go? What would you give up to be perfect?

A riveting and startling companion to the bestselling Impulse, Ellen Hopkins’s Perfect exposes the harsh truths about what it takes to grow up and grow into our own skins, our own selves.
Content warning: for older teens or adults due to language and themes.

Our first giveaway from BEA is a signed advanced reading copy of Perfect by Ellen Hopkins. Must be 18 or older to enter and have a U.S. mailing address. Click here to enter.

There is so much to tell you about BEA, so I thought you may enjoy seeing my photos as I take them. It’s been insanely busy on the showroom floor trying to meet authors, make signings and see new cover reveals. The publishers have been amazing to work with and so generous. I think I’m most excited about reading Undercurrent by Tricia Rayburn, Forever by Maggie Stiefvater, Crossed by Ally Condie and Passion by Lauren Kate. More details to come this week. Follow @fireicephotos on twitter for all of the action!
