I still remember my Elementary School Librarian “Mrs Pursigan” and the hours I spent in there searching for information on the Loch Ness Monster and hte horses of Chinqoteague Island! How sad to think that many school children will not have the fond memories that I had of spending time poring over books. To celebrate teachers and librarians cross the world who encourage others to open a book and open their imagination, we are giving away two prize packs.
Each winner will receive:
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer- Mark Twain paperback Scholastic Edition
The Giver– Lois Lowry paperback Laurel-Leaf Newbery edition
The Wisdom of Narnia– Lewis/Baynes Hardback Harper Collins edition

I loved books. I had a teacher in grade 3 that would not let us take chapter books from the library. We had to take picture books. I had been reading chapter books from the public library since grade 1. My librarian used to sneak me into the library to sign out whatever books I wanted. As I got older, I was a bit of a loner and didn’t have too many friends in my elementary school. Recess was pure torture. My librarian recognized this and asked me to help her shelve books during recess because “she couldn’t possibly do it all by herself.” I loved my librarian!

The Giver happens to be one of my all-time favorite books. I adored it when I was a child and I still do now.

I remember this librarian who would always help me pick out books and was really nice. She would tease me about all of the books.

I will always remember the librarian from my elementary school — Mrs. Moss. She not only taught us how to use the library, but she engaged us creatively by having us write and act out our own stories. And she helped us to improve our reading comprehension on all levels. Her teaching was a key part of the curriculum.

+1 a librarian I remember is Mrs. Paulson. I had trouble learning to read and always felt embarrassed during reading time for our weekly library class and she offered free after school tutoring sessions to help further my reading skills. Because of her attention and kindness I discovered a love for books!

+1 I will always remember my middle school librarians. I have since forgotten their names, but I loved that they seemed to really care about what I was reading and they always had suggestions for me. They let me read books in the back room that had not been put out on the shelves yet and things like that. 😀

+1 I don’t know if this will count but I’ve never met a librarian. I live in such a small town that our library is so small and mostly little kids books, so I have never been there. 🙁
