CLOCKWORK ANGEL by Cassandra Clare

Book Description
A new urban fantasy full of vampires, werewolves and shape-shifters from the bestselling author of The Mortal Instruments series

Product Description
London, 1878: Sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray’s priority should be finding her brother, not falling in love, especially with two boys. She is soon caught in a dangerous love triangle where a wrong decision could prove fatal. Tessa will need all her strength to save her brother and stay alive as she learns the chilling truth of what really lurks on London’s streets after dark.

CAN NOT WAIT for this book to come out from Cassandra Clare! Her books are amazing and even her websites pull you in with interaction, rich illustrations and beautiful covers. Here is her description of the new series:

How many books are there in The Infernal Devices trilogy?

There are three. The title of the trilogy itself is The Infernal Devices: the first book is called The Clockwork Angel, the second The Clockwork Prince, the third, the Clockwork Princess.

When will The Clockwork Angel be out?

September 7, 2010.

Here is Cassandra Clare’s website on the series http://theinfernaldevices.com/index3.html

What’s The Infernal Devices about?

The Infernal Devices is a series of prequels to The Mortal Instruments series, set in 19th century London. The story concerns 16-year-old orphan Tessa Gray, whose quiet life is thrown into turmoil when her older brother Nathaniel suddenly vanishes, leaving her alone. Her search for him leads her into Victorian-era London’s dangerous supernatural underworld, where warlocks throw masked balls for half-demon Downworlders. When Tessa discovers that she herself is a Downworlder, she must come to trust her natural enemies, the demon-killing Shadowhunters, if she ever wants to learn to control her powers and find her brother. Torn between the beautiful Will, a Shadowhunter who isn’t what he seems, and the devoted Jem, whose own deadly secret is slowly destroying him, Tessa must draw on all her strength to save her brother and keep herself alive in this deadly new world.

Ahhhh… why oh why to we have to wait for this book and City of Fallen Angels? In the mean time here are some fan made trailers for Cassandra’s other books in print.

Forest of Hands and Teeth

Publish Date: March 2009
Publisher: Random House Children’s Books
Format: Hardcover, 320pp
Age Young adult
ISBN: 0385736819

In Mary’s world there are simple truths. The Sisterhood always knows best. The Guardians will protect and serve. The Unconsecrated will never relent. And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth. But, slowly, Mary’s truths are failing her. She’s learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power, and about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness. When the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, she must choose between her village and her future—between the one she loves and the one who loves her. And she must face the truth about the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Could there be life outside a world surrounded in so much death?

I picked this book up at the library because of the cover (the title threw me off I must say.) Typically I avoid books with a lot of graphic imagery and violence, but got sucked in by all of the intrigue and secrets the Sisterhood were holding. For me, Mary’s world of zombies and isolation seemed doomed and ruled by other’s choices. The romance between her and Travis was beautiful at first and disappointing in the end.

I understand Mary’s need for independence and freedom, but her choices seemed selfish and put the ones she loves in danger. The ending left me sad, but I will read the sequel hoping it answers all of the questions left in my head. Overall, I would give it 3 and a half stars out of five. Very interesting and haunting, yet I found myself wanting Mary to make different choices, taking into consideration all that she lost.

I had challenged myself to read 100 books this year. I don’t think I will quite make it but I am close! It has been an adventure which our whole family has enjoyed. Hubby just finished an 800 page book called “The Undaunted” a couple of days ago. The kids are wracking up a wish list on Amazon. We have learned to love the library and Barnes and Noble now knows me by name.

•A Child’s Journey out of Autism: One Family’s Story of Living in Hope and Finding a Cure Whiffen, Leeann

Jeff-The Sword Of Shannara by Terry Brooks… ( read the trilogy)
Jasmine-Poison Study was AWESOME:)
Heidi-The Hunger games series!

The Dark Divine Review

26 Dec, 2009 by in paranormal, YA fiction 1 comment

Trailer by Sprtygal/ cranberryfries

From debut author Bree Despain’s website:

A prodigal son

A dangerous love

A deadly secret . . .

Grace Divine, daughter of the local pastor, always knew something terrible happened the night Daniel Kalbi disappeared—the night she found her brother Jude collapsed on the porch, covered in blood. But she has no idea what a truly monstrous secret that night really held. And when Daniel returns three years later, Grace can no longer deny her attraction to him, despite promising Jude shell stay away.

As Grace gets closer to Daniel, her actions stir the ancient evil Daniel unleashed that horrific night. Grace must discover the truth behind Jude and Daniel’s dark secret . . . and the cure that can save the ones she loves. But she may have to lay down the ultimate sacrifice to do it—her soul.

WOW! I bought Bree’s debut book the day it came out and could not stop reading until I was done. I admit it took me a little while to fall in love with Daniel because of all I knew he had done in the past, but he what a man.

This book takes the parable of the Prodigal Son and brings it into the 21st century while adding a paranormal twist full of myth and legend.

Every girl wants to fall in love with their childhood friend and I found myself pulling for Grace and Daniel as their chemistry became undeniable. It was clear their love would endure the pressures of the outside trying to pull them apart. Grace is the perfect heroine…down to earth, forgiving and an example of what she has been taught. Daniel is someone I have seen in so many others as I get older, someone fighting against what seems an inescapable past. He works hard to better his life and right what he has done wrong. Jude. Well, he is the boy next door who serves everyone and you can’t help but to love him. Each one involved in the story has depth that helps you see their point of view.

The characters jumped off of the pages for me. I enjoyed the history woven through the ending chapters as the full plot and all of the secrets unfold. The last chapter were easy to read and not jumbled or pulled together too quickly. The suspense keeps the pages turning form beginning to end. This is a must read! Warning though, once you pick it up you will not be able to put it down. Five out of five stars.

Watch for my TDD inspired jewelry coming out this week 🙂
