The 29th Year Brings a New ‘Reimagined’ Version of the Holiday Tradition to the Screen-Salt Lake City –Thanks to the pandemic, 2020 has brought an immeasureable number of changes to traditional holiday events, and even the timeless musical The Forgotten Carols could not escape its effects. Now in its 29thyear of consecutive performances, The Forgotten Carols will forego its usual stage performances, and instead, this year’s performance will be filmed and produced as audiences in order to keep the Holiday tradition alive. Michael McLean, a well-known performer, composer, songwriter, author and director initially developed The Forgotten Carols as solely a theme-driven album of new Christmas music. But he soon realized he needed a story to connect all the songs together. McLean wrote the interweaving story of a nurse named Connie Lou who cares for John, an elderly patient who shares the songs about those people he claims to have lived with 2,000 years ago. For his initial performances, McLean played all the parts to give people a sense of how families could present the narration at home hoping it would become a family tradition families.Over the years, McLean’s modest one-man show has evolved into a huge theatrical production performed for more than a million people throughout the world. The show has been presented throughout the United States and the world, including shows in Ireland, Germany, England and even Ukraine.

And now, after 28 years on the stage, The Forgotten Carols will be available to even more audiences through the film production! The production will be staged and filmed in September in Iron County, UT. “To produce a high-quality film version of this beloved show during a pandemic has been no small undertaking,” said Julie Ahlander, producer. “We are absolutely thrilled to be able to produce the show in Utah –home to many of our cast and crew, including the writer and star of the show, Michael McLean. And we have to thank the Utah Film Commission for its support, because without its support this production would not have been possible.” Perhaps prophetically, McLean had been working on adapting the stage version of The Forgotten Carols as a feature film for the past several years, and it was this process that inspired changes to the story he implemented last year. “After we wrote the screenplay for the film, there were so many elements we fell in love with that just had to be in the stage version,” said McClean. “And the changes we’ve made just feel right. They make the characters deeper, the story more spiritual, and the experience that much richer.”

SYNOPSIS

The Forgotten Carols stage performance tells the story of Connie Lou, a nurse whose empty life is changed when Uncle John, a new patient she is attending, recounts the story of Christ’s birth as told by little known characters in the nativity story. The accounts from the Innkeeper, the Shepherd and others help the nurse discover what the world has forgotten about Christmas, ultimately encouraging her to open her heart to the joy of this special season

Gavin headed down to the restaurant to meet Taylor. He stuffed his hands in his pockets as he walked down, trying to contain the excitement at seeing her again.

He arrived first and waved off the hostess’s offer to wait at the table, instead walking slowly around the lobby. He’d sat too much the last week anyway, not to mention the long flight from Rio.

“Gavin?”

He turned at the sound of Taylor’s voice, smiling as she hurried up to him. She hesitated long enough for him to note her bright yellow tank dress and flip-flops before she leaned forward and hugged him. He pulled her closer an instant later. The conversations they’d had every day melted any awkwardness that might have been between them.

“Our table is ready,” he said, keeping an arm around her waist as he turned to nod toward the hostess.

“Perfect. Did I keep you waiting?” She settled closer to him as he walked her back toward the restaurant. He liked the feel of his hand on her hip, her flowery scent light in the air around him now, her blonde hair brushing against his arm.

“Only a minute or two. It felt good to stretch my legs.”

“How long is the flight?” Now she slid her arm behind him, her fingers gripping the edge of his shirt.

“Almost twenty hours with layovers, but something I’m used to, of course. I swear I live half my life on planes.”

“Stop bragging.” She bumped him with her hip, and he laughed.

They reached their table, a small one on a wooden platform on the beach, the two chairs seated opposite each other. Taylor frowned at them before slipping from his embrace and sitting down. A gentle breeze blew by, and she tilted her head back, taking in a long breath.

“It’s wonderful. The ocean, the flowers, and the delicious food,” she said. “I’m glad I get to stay an extra couple days. It’s going to be hard enough to leave as it is.”

“There is something about a beach at sunset that just never gets old.” Gavin dropped into his own chair, only glancing at the menu before he’d already decided. Taylor had picked up hers and began poring over it, her sandaled feet tentatively sliding next to his. He slid his own closer, the feel of her skin against his leg making him ready to ditch dinner and head straight for the walk, where he might find a quiet space of beach and hold Taylor in his arms.

Dinner, thankfully, passed quickly, their conversation just as easy as it had been on the phone the last few days. It was natural to take her hand and help her up when they had finished, and then keep hold of it as they headed for the beach. Taylor slipped out of her flip-flops right away, holding them with her other hand as they walked.

She leaned her head against his shoulder. “It’s crazy how easy this is, right? Us?”

“Roxy did say we were soulmates.”

“I knew that from the minute you said you did freelancing so you could travel.”

“It’s sounds exciting at first, until I miss your birthday because I have a last minute meeting in Paris.” He stopped, not caring that they hadn’t really found a quiet place, that there were people scattered about on the beach still. He turned toward her, bringing his hands to her waist and looking down on her. They’d talked a lot about Gavin worrying that he wouldn’t find someone who understood his passion, that the wanderlust in his blood wouldn’t just evaporate someday when it was time to be responsible.

She hadn’t been afraid to admit that traveling and family didn’t come without complications, but she’d been insistent that a life where her children could experience all the things she’d grown up wishing for sounded fantastic. He wanted to look in her eyes now and see the same enthusiasm she’d expressed over the phone.

“Take me with you to Paris,” she said softly, running her hands up the front of his shirt and tilting her head back.

“What about the kids?” he asked, smiling as he leaned closer, making sure she saw the joke in his eyes.

“You’re moving fast, buddy. Sit back and enjoy this for a few minutes.” She moved her hands to the back of his head, pulling him down and meeting his lips with hers. They melted into each other, with their toes in the sand, and waves threatening to roll over their feet. And Gavin did just what he was told. He forgot about the future and what six months down the road might mean with Taylor, and he enjoyed the next several minutes. To their fullest.

“In a hurry, my lady?” he said, arching his eyebrows and slowing his step.

“I wouldn’t want to keep Lord Pembroke waiting,” she said, nearly pulling him along with her.

But Wolverton stopped altogether. Since he still held her arm fast, she did, too, rather abruptly. Alice looked up in surprise.

“I must ask you a question, my lady. Why were you asking Huntley about the Earl of Moreland’s son?” His voice was soft, as if she might spook if he spoke too loudly.

Alice gaped. How had he overheard? Swallowing, she forced herself to relax. “I met Thomas once and was shocked at his death, that’s all. There are so few details on what happened.” She gave Wolverton a demure smile, hoping to cover her earlier reaction. “But Lord Huntley reminded me that such things aren’t fit for the ears of a gently bred woman.”

He tilted his head as if considering her words. “Since it was reported that Pembroke was the last person to see Thomas alive, is it reasonable to assume that is why you’re so anxious to talk to him? To find out more details? If so, I’d like to know why.” His blue eyes bored into hers. He wasn’t going to give up easily, that much was clear, and she needed to claim her dance with Lord Pembroke.

Alice pulled her hand away from his arm and straightened her spine. “Lord Wolverton, this conversation has become tiresome, and I have promised this dance to another. If you will please escort me inside.” She turned and started toward the ballroom doors, but Wolverton caught up easily and blocked her way.

His hands were behind his back now, the picture of a gentleman, but his voice was edged with tension. “Be careful, my lady. Curiosity can be a dangerous thing.”

Of course the day I left California it was sunny and beautiful. I left on the perfect day to sit in a beach chair. And where was I headed? Rainy Washington state, the dreariest state in the country, and I was going there to cheer up. It was sort of funny when you thought about it.

I had everything packed and my car filled to the brim when my phone rang. I almost let it go to voicemail, but at the last minute I decided to pick it up.

“This is Avery,” I answered.

“It’s me,” Dallas said quietly. “I heard you’re moving.”

 Just hearing his voice on the line made that hole grow a few more inches.

“I’m not moving. I am only going away for a few months. Who told you?”

 I had my guesses, the best one being Ianni. I knew he would find out anyway, I just didn’t want him calling me on the day I left. It made this move even harder.

“Why?”

“Why am I going away? Really?” He had some nerve to ask me this, but I took a deep breath and composed myself. “I need some time to myself. Nothing more. Nothing less.” There, an honest answer.

“Well, I just called to tell you I got the New York building. I am leaving, too.” He sighed into the phone. “I am sorry that things happened the way they did. I … I wish you luck, Avery.”

As I picked my jaw off the pavement I tried to think of a response. Now thinking back I could think of so many great things to say back. But I only said, “Thanks. Good luck to you, too.” The lamest thing I could think to say. It was something you said to a complete stranger. Not someone you loved.

He hung up and that was it. It was done. I was alone and he was leaving too. He was slipping through my fingers only a few months ago and now he was gone.

I let the tears fall where they wanted as I put May in her dog crate. She was coming with me on my new adventure; I was not about to leave her behind. We were venturing together to see what we could find in the Northwest.

Harlequin Heartwarming put out a clean contemporary romance set in a picturesque small Montana ranch town. I jumped in without reading any of the other books in the series and loved it. Fiona and Simon have a fun chemistry based on him supervising her online date attempts as a bartender. Fiona is trying her hardest to fulfill her father’s future requests to grow up and meet a suitable husband.

The family relationships are solid and meaningful, full of second chances and breaking harmful patterns. It addresses enabling in addiction, divorce, as well as searching for a biological parent. I did struggle a bit with suspension of disbelief in the last chapter and cliffhanger. As far as favorite characters, Luke. Simon’s best friend is a keeper. His banter with Simon over Fiona is fun. Highly recommend for contemp fans! Thanks Prism Book Tours and Harlequin, Carl Ross for a great holiday read.

Review

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one since I hadn’t read book one in the series. Since I love London, and the author, I jumped right in. It has a Sherlock Homes feel to it–a whodunit with a dash of romance. There are two alternating points of view plus two different penny stories mixed in. I found myself skipping over some of the additional stories mixed in because it was confusing to me to keep track of all the story lines, authors and plots. The main story built up well and kept me turning pages. I enjoyed the concept behind their secret society as well as their motto and the work they do. Cozy mystery meets Robin Hood. Might I suggest reading them in order? I had fun with this book. It is truly unique!

ROB DIAMOND’S NEW FEATURE FILM LUCY SHIMMERS & THE PRINCE OF PEACE ANNOUNCES RELEASE

Salt Lake City – Writer, Director and Producer Rob Diamond announced today that his new film, LUCY SHIMMERS & THE PRINCE OF PEACE will be released on Amazon Prime on Black Friday, November 27 and then on Living Scriptures on Friday, December 4.

LUCY SHIMMERS & THE PRINCE OF PEACE is Diamond’s 15^th feature film and was produced completely in Utah early in 2020. “I can truly say that this is my favorite film I’ve ever made,” said Diamond. “The inspiration for the film came from a dream I had and then the story and the entire production came together absolutely seamlessly.”

LUCY SHIMMERS tells the story of five-year-old Lucy and the incredible influence she has on those around her, especially hardened criminal Edgar. Lucy, with the help of her guardian angel, create miracles that change his heart and inspire a second chance in his life.

The film features mostly local talent, including Shawn Stevens as Grandpa Jackson, Adam Hightower as James Shimmers, and Florencia Stevens as Isabelle Shimmers. In addition, the film stars well-known actor Vincent Vargas (THE MAYANS) and newcomer Scarlett Diamond in the title-role of Lucy.

 Scarlett Diamond just so happens to be the granddaughter of filmmaker Rob Diamond.
“Granted I’m biased, but Scarlett was absolutely incredible. She is only five-years-old and this was her first major speaking role and she proved she’s a natural!” proclaimed Diamond.

In addition to writing, directing and producing, Diamond also operates an acting studio and many of the actors in the film are current and former Diamond students. The film was shot entirely on location in Salt Lake City and Heber, Utah early in 2020. “Our last day of filming was literally the day before Utah shut down in March because of the pandemic,” said Diamond.
