Determined to pass junior year, Logan won’t let Henry distract him—much. Logan’s focusing on all things human, which means his swoony vampire ex-boyfriend will have to file his own fangs for a change. When he goes to the school bonfire and runs into Henry, wandering into the woods seems like a great escape. Until he’s bitten by a wicked Crone with some twisted magical munchies.

Logan is certain his ex-free human future is done when he’s dragged off to a scientific institution for study. There, he’s presented with an opportunity to keep his life, family, and future. All he has to do is stick to human ideology, since all things paranormal are illegal. But complications arise when the Crone begins to haunt him and Logan realizes that if he wants to get his life back, he has to navigate his lingering feelings for Henry.

With the Crone set on devouring him and the institution ready to obliterate him for any missteps, Logan must decide between pursuing the human future his family wants—one that he thought he wanted too—or the chance to embrace Henry, even if the world isn’t ready.

About Claire Theriot Mestepey:

Whimsy Word Search Game Ups the Fun Level of Word Searches

Whimsy Word Search has launched a new style of game that triples the fun with its genius mix of color and word search.

Claire Theriot Mestepey’s love affair with word games and word searches has been going on for as long as she can remember. Then about a few years ago, Claire had a novel idea to create a book that combined both coloring and word searches in one game. She immediately got to work to ensure this idea came into fruition. After a lot of trials and mostly errors, Whimsy Word Search was born.

Whimsy Word Search debuted with two never-seen-before puzzle styles: normal and pictogram. The normal Whimsy Word Search is a prettier and more colorful take on the regular word search, but the difference is that it allows one to color each letter in the words they find.

As for the pictogram style, Claire has her husband to thank for the idea. “My husband suggested there might be a way to make these puzzles even more challenging. Why use simple letters when you can challenge your puzzle lovers with pictograms? So have each pictogram represent a letter and then find the connecting pictograms that form the words. Hence Whimsy Word Search, Pictogram Style was created.”

As the owner and creator of the Whimsy Word Search, Claire is in charge of the entire process. “I do everything from coming up with the ideas for different books to creating the pages to publishing the books.” It is particularly noteworthy that Claire does all this even with a severe physical disability. “What gives my story of a strong woman trying to build a business while raising a happy family a twist, is that I have cerebral palsy.”

Nonetheless, Claire shows no sign of stopping anytime soon. “Recently we have added American Sign Language too. My latest book is Shakespearean Insults, which features letters from guttersnipe to roundtable wench! These words and insults work in a pinch! It’s probably my favorite book word search that I have created to date.”

Claire also added a new feather to her cap when she and her work were featured in the Texas County Reporter. An experience she is most thankful for.

Claire also finished her first full-length novel recently, Pillars, which is about a heroine in wheelchair who uses her magic powers to combat evil. The novel is set to be part of a trilogy that chronicles the epic battles between good and evil. Claire is currently writing the second novel, while a detailed outline of the third novel is already penned down.

REINCEPTION WILL CHANGE YOUR MIND…whether you want it or not

A hundred years in the future, ReInception is used to modify the brain and eliminate unwanted behaviors–everything from overeating to the worst criminal impulses. Unmodified 20-year-old Leandrea Justus feels ordinary compared to her perfect friends who like living in a ReInception world.

Not everyone is in favor of modification–some remain quiet, while others are outwardly insubordinate. After a protest turns violent, a rogue member of the serving class known as The Prole saves Leandrea and exposes a new reality to her: The true purpose of ReInception may be far more nefarious than advertised. Now, her free will may be her greatest asset. But Leandrea’s discoveries about ReInception are putting her life at stake. Can she save society or will the secrets she uncovers start a Civil War?

ReInception is a fiction-debut, the first in a new, action-filled sci-fi trilogy with surprising twists, and a story that may be closer to reality than we think.

Reviews:

“A richly detailed world full of thought-provoking tech. Straus’s imagination and deft storytelling shine in this impressive debut!”–Jason M. Hough, New York Times Bestselling author of “The Darwin Elevator.”

★★★★★
Literary Titan Gold Award
ReInception is an excellent science fiction novel with a focus on genetic engineering. The adventure readers go on as they follow the characters in the battle for humanity’s free will is engaging and thrilling. With the moral question of what is right or wrong and what is the benefit for society as a whole at the forefront of this novel, it will be hard to put down once you start.

“This is a remarkable book. Brilliant, gripping, endlessly creative.”–Amazon Best-Selling Author of City Dark, Roger Canaff

About Sarena Straus:

I write novels for the curious and adventurous, for people who are intrigued by a “what happens if,” scenario, and who like to explore the outcomes. My characters are ordinary people who find out that they are capable of extraordinary things and discover that one person can truly make a difference.

After receiving a BA in art history and political science from Barnard, I graduated from Fordham University School of Law. I then worked for five years at the Bronx District Attorney’s Office (BXDA), where I prosecuted sex crimes and child abuse cases. After leaving BXDA, I published a true-crime memoir, Bronx DA: True Stories from the Sex Crimes and Domestic Violence unit (Barricade, 2006). In 2010, my book sold as a TV Pilot to CBS/Paramount.

I’ve gone on to publish numerous legal articles and works of poetry, and I was an editor for a legal magazine. For a few years, I was also a talking head, commenting on current criminal cases in the media on tv and radio.

Today, I live in the Hudson Valley, NY with my husband, our two children (also budding writers), two naughty Labrador retriever ladies, and two barn cat boys. I’m now working on sequels to my debut novel ReInception and will keep you posted about them on my site.

When not writing or lawyering, I love to scuba dive, take photographs, and travel off the beaten path. I’ll swap diving or courtroom stories with you all day long or happily talk to you about books–writing them or reading them!

For eight years, Saffron Savage has been stuck on a dilapidated zoo-planet on the outskirts of the galaxy. Her mountains of overdue student loans make it impossible to afford the cost of leaving, and her sleazy coworkers force her to work demoralizing jobs on a daily basis. Desperate to escape, she hatches a scheme that might just be crazy enough to work: steal the zoo’s rare, two-headed llama and sell it to the highest bidder.

When the poorly planned theft lands Saffron and her stolen companion as unwitting stowaways on an outbound ship, she must pose as an animal rights activist on a mission to return the animal to its home planet. To her surprise, the ride comes with some perks – an instant chemistry with Captain Michael Reyes and burgeoning friendships with the ship’s motley, animal-loving crew. Other than the lie that’s snowballing out of control, Saffron finds herself settling into this quirky, ship-bound life.

If only the buyer wasn’t the most notorious, cut-throat mob boss in the galaxy. Or there wasn’t a warrant out for her arrest.

The Galactic Zookeeper’s Guide to Heists and Husbandry is a fast-paced space romp about second chances, rediscovering purpose, and finding family in unexpected places.

Excerpt

I wheel into action, a plan springing to mind that very instant. “Ah. You know,” I say to the person behind me in line. “I think my llama needs to use the restroom. Excuse me.”

I try to smile politely, but it turns out a little too much like a grimace. The woman eagerly scootches over to one side.

“Yoo-hoo,” she calls. As if my talking to her were the only invitation needed to open the floodgates of her curiosity. “Isn’t that a umemeh?”

She asked the question so loudly I believe the entire bloody station has heard it.

I force a chuckle. It’s been a while since I’ve laughed casually, so it sounds demented. “No, lady. Of course not! That species is endangered. This right here is a llama with a genetic defect. Two heads. Poor thing was unwanted by his mother,” the lady’s face wears an expression of doubt, so I press my point home with forced lightness in my voice. “No umemeh’s today. Sorry to disappoint.”

I tug the umemeh along more forcefully towards the garbage bay, which is adjacent to the port entrance. I already smell terrible. Hiding out in literal garbage shouldn’t be a problem, right? At least, until the heat is gone.

There’s a security officer posted in front of the large rolling garage door that opens to the dump. Why the voids would they post a security guard by the garbage? Is there that much stolen crap flying through the Horse’s Ass?

Well, actually. Yeah. That makes sense.

The security officer stares at my animal for a long time, chewing thoughtfully.

Please just let me through, I pray. Please just let me through.

“That an umemeh?” He finally asks.

“Ah. Nope! Just a llama.” I wait, but the guy hasn’t moved a muscle. “…A llama that needs to take a piss.”

“How can you tell?”

“Well, he’s been my seeing-guide-llama for the last eight years,” I say, making it up as I go along. Between the sunglasses and hoodie and the grey scarf wrapped around my neck, my lie may actually be passable.

Except that if an umemeh were a guidance animal, their owner would have died a thousand times by now. Also, I’m pretty sure pretending to be blind is a new low for me. “I can always tell when he has to take a piss,” I add lamely.

“Not that! I meant the llama part. Don’t umemeh’s have two heads?”

“Well, I had them engineer a second head onto this one to help with the seeing stuff,” I retort.

I can’t help but cast a glance at the police activity around the Cricket. One of the officers by the ship is staring directly at us, scratching his head. Shitshitshit.

I turn to the garbage-bay bouncer with fire in my veins. “Look, mister—”

“That’s officer!” He interrupts with a kind-hearted smile. “My name’s Officer Dan.”

“Okay, look, Officer Dan.” I put my hands on my hips. “Llamas can hold their piss for three days. But when they’ve got to go, they’ve got to go. So, if you could just let me through?”

He still appears skeptical. And he should, because it’s all total bullshit. I mean, umemeh’s can hold their piss for three days, but llamas? They piss every three to six hours.

“Look,” I add. “You can follow me in and keep asking about… Fred here. But if we stand out here any longer, one of us is going to be mopping llama urine off a half-mile of space terminal.”

Diana Gendarme has spent her life doing for others, so when she moves into her dream cottage, she’s ready for some “me” time. But the cottage is shabby and her new neighbors quite close. One of them makes a din in his blacksmith’s forge all day long yet has the nerve to complain about her beagle’s yodeling. He’s the last sort of man who should attract Diana. So why can’t she resist the absurd dares he persists in issuing?

Reg Coltsfoot doesn’t plan on falling for his neighbor. A lifelong charmer, he’s used to women falling for him instead. There’s just something about Diana that has him longing to draw her out of her staid life and into his. Maybe it’s the magic of spring, but Reg will do all he can to persuade Diana she needs his laughter and his love to light her days.

Excerpt:

He had assumed a wide, protective stance and he looked absolutely nothing like the image of Mr. Coltsfoot lodged in Diana’s head. In fact, this could not be Mr. Coltsfoot. He did not appear old enough. A caregiver, perhaps. Or Mr. Coltsfoot’s son.

He had a bared head of thick, dark hair tumbling in an unruly fashion over his brow, and a face suffused with outrage. He wore a white shirt unbuttoned at the neck and a pair of tan slacks, and he made Diana suck in a breath as if someone had struck her in the gut.

“I’m sorry, is that your pet?” she called, seeing the creature nestled comfortably in his arms. She didn’t know if he heard her over Amundsen’s baying, which continued unabated.

He snarled in response. Diana could take it for nothing but a snarl. He tossed back his head and shouted, “I hope your dog is not going to be a problem.”

Diana did not appreciate being shouted at, though she supposed under the circumstances he had no other option.

He’s not my dog. The words trembled on her lips but she did not speak them. To all intents and purposes, Amundsen had become her responsibility.

He’d been Dad’s dog, a loyal if ofttimes trouble-making companion. He could decimate an unsecured kitchen garbage pail in mere seconds. He could open a refrigerator door and select whatever appealed to him. He could chew up and destroy anything not made of cast iron.

About Laura Strickland:

Multi award-winning author Laura Strickland delights in time traveling to the past and searching out settings for her books, be they Historical Romance, Steampunk or something in between. Her first Scottish Historical hero, Devil Black, battled his way onto the publishing scene in 2013, and the author never looked back. Nor has she tapped the limits of her imagination. Venturing beyond Historical and Contemporary Romance, she created a new world with her ground-breaking Buffalo Steampunk Adventure series set in her native city, in Western New York. Married and the parent of one grown daughter, Laura has also been privileged to mother a number of very special rescue dogs, the latest of whom is a little boy named Tinker, and is intensely interested in animal welfare. Her love of dogs, and her lifelong interest in Celtic history, magic and music, are all reflected in her writing. Laura’s mantra is Lore, Legend, Love, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
