Custom Mermaid Lego

02 Jun, 2010 by in mermaid, siren 11 comments

Searching for SIREN items I stumbled upon TheBeachGnome. First of all those really are two of my favorite things…beaches and gnomes. Second of all our names are the same and she is a SAHM as well. We’ve had fun shooting emails back and forth. She’s generously donated a custom mermaid lego girl…”My name is Heather and I am a stay at home mom to 3 boys. I love to create and I have a list a mile long of things I want to make. So many things in nature are magical and inspire me. I am an eclectic “artist”. I guess I’d consider myself an ADHD crafter. I want to try it all!

Description
A beautiful mermaid with some bling. Her shiny silver tail reflects the sunlight as she swims through the water. She is a woman of many moods, her head can be turned to reveal a pleasant smile or an anguished grimace. She is approximately 2 ¼ inches tall.

Here’s how it works:

Make sure it’s not a spoiler in case anyone wants to read the book
Include the author and name of the book

“She was outside my head, calling to me from the crystal chandeliers above, the pictures lining the walls, the rug beneath my feet. You’ve come so far…Please don’t go…”

Handmade Wolf Brooch

28 May, 2010 by in UK, wolf 18 comments

Introducing today’s wolfy giveaway donated by LoveFromHettyandDave…”Born on the South Coast of England in the late seventies, and raised on a diet of sequins, buttons, ribbons and thread, it was inevitable that Zoe Larkins, the designer behind the brand, would develop her first crush on a Singer…

Inspired by Mexican Arts and Crafts, 1950’s Tattoo Designs and Kitsch, as well as current trends, each item is cut and stitched by hand, in high quality soft leather, achieving a one off and somewhat naïve look, which lends a refreshing alternative in this age of mass manufactured fashion jewellery.

Celebrity fans include Amy Winehouse, whose Love From Hetty & Dave ‘Blake’ brooch has become an iconic addition to her beehive…

All items are designed, made and sent from the UK, and come packaged in a smart black box, with pink satin ribbon.

You can see the full range at http://www.lovefromhettyanddave.co.uk/ or every Sunday at Spitalfields Market, London.

Book Review- Raised by Wolves

27 May, 2010 by in raised by wolves 4 comments

published June 8th 2010 by EgmontUSA (first published 2010)
details Hardcover, 432 pages
characters Bryn, Chase
isbn 1606840592 (isbn13: 9781606840597)
4 stars

Synopsis From Goodreads…Adopted by the Alpha of a werewolf pack after a rogue wolf brutally killed her parents right before her eyes, fifteen-year-old Bryn knows only pack life, and the rigid social hierarchy that controls it. That doesn’t mean that she’s averse to breaking a rule or two.

But when her curiosity gets the better of her and she discovers Chase, a new teen locked in a cage in her guardian’s basement, and witnesses him turn into a wolf before her eyes, the horrific memories of her parents’ murders return. Bryn becomes obsessed with getting her questions answered, and Chase is the only one who can provide the information she needs.

But in her drive to find the truth, will Bryn push too far beyond the constraints of the pack, forcing her to leave behind her friends, her family, and the identity that she’s shaped

I just finished this book last night after three days of straight reading. It’s a long and in-depth look at one humans’ experience being raised as an orphaned teenager by an alpha and his pack of wolves. Bryn is a scrappy headstrong girl who is looking for answers after her parents were killed by “the big bad wolf” of her nightmares. Along comes Chase, a boy who shares her past and some secrets of his own. What is the pull that draws them together and why does he feel so familiar? She will risk her life and lifelong loyalties to find out. As the story unravels it is evident both Chase and Bryn, the whole pack as well as countless others are in danger. Can they stop the attacks before it is too late?
Raised by Wolves is a breath of fresh air to YA fiction and is psychologically interesting. I appreciate that it’s free from swearing and adult situations. I personally wanted to know more about Chase and “get inside” his head to hear his thoughts of Bryn. I kept waiting for the full story behind his past and more interaction between the two main protagonists. Pack supervision and alpha power keep them removed from each other for most of the book. The villain is truly creepy and Jennifer Lynn Barnes makes him the most real character of all. He truly made my skin crawl in the last chapters.

Come out come out wherever you are
and pick up “Raised By Wolves” for a thrilling and suspenseful paranormal read. Four stars…
Email us if you are interersted in joining the ARC tour which kicks off today!

Wolf Card Pack Giveaway

27 May, 2010 by in etsy, odessa kelley, raised by wolves 7 comments

Our Etsy shop giveaway goes hand in hand with the book “Raised by Wolves” and was donated by OdessaKelley. Here’s her bio…”I have had a lifelong fascination with wildlife and art. As a child I spent many hours at the local library immersed in books about the Master Painters of the Renaissance. When I wasn’t at the library, I was outdoors playing with insects and wildlife, building cities for my Matchbox cars and riding my bike. (Yes, I was a tomboy . . . and still am!)

In my formative years I studied art under a private tutor who taught me the drawing basics. During my twenties I began to experiment with acrylic and oil mediums. However, I clung to my pencils and charcoal until I sold my first painting. That gave me the confidence to branch out and try other mediums like watercolor, gauche and pastel. In the end I settled on acrylic and oil, although I love pastel!

As an adult, I traveled the U.S. to experience the variety of cultures and landscapes that make up our beautiful country. While living in Arizona, I was introduced to the art of the Southwest. I fell in love with the vivid colors and realistic style the artists use to tell the story of the American Southwest. The Southwestern style has been a major influence on my work.

I am an avid gardener and with the help of my husband have created a haven for wildlife in our yard near the Gulf of Mexico in Northwest Florida. My concern for wildlife habitat loss and the devastating effects of urban sprawl has led me to study, paint and deeply appreciate the indigenous wildlife of North America.

I also donate to local wildlife and animal charities on a regular basis. If you purchase a painting let me know if you have a favorite wildlife or animal charity and I will donate 10% of the purchase to that charity. My husband and I serve as a foster family for unwanted pets from time to time. We share out home with 2 cats and one sweet puppy!
