I am a writer of crime and literary fiction from Melbourne, Australia. I have published five short story collections, two novellas and four novels as well as over fifty individual short stories in journals both literary and crime.

I also recently signed a three book deal with American publisher Level Best Books for a series of crime thrillers set in SE Asia featuring Bangkok-based Australian PI Lee Jenson.

Outside of writing I like to travel, walk everywhere, take photographs like crazy, watch a lot of films and firmly believe that test cricket is the greatest game of all.

I write crime novels that are fast paced, action filled stories featuring relentless protagonists who never give up.

I also write crime and literary short stories and collections filled with small slices of life that will make you laugh and cry and possibly even break your heart.

My crime novels are also translated into Spanish and Portuguese.

Review excerpts:

Going All the Way

Fast-paced, sleazy, violent. O’Leary doesn’t just show you the seedy sights of two of Australia’s most famous cities, he drags you down into the gutter along with the losers, deadbeats and addicts that populate this engrossing tale. I needed a bath with a wire brush and Dettol once I was done with this one.

The Heat

This story is a crackerjack, it’s a punch in the face kind of book, it grabs hold and literally doesn’t stop until you get to the final pages.

Sean O’Leary draws the locations very well, in particular the Bangkok scenes. Being one of my favourite cities in the world I can say O’Leary gets these down with a real authenticity.

Short in length but big in story, I enjoyed this gritty and murky revenge thriller. I found myself immersed and really rooting for JaKe for all his flaws. A very decent read that really packs a massive punch.

City of SIn

Sean O’Leary does not seem like a dark character, but he certainly writes them well. The previous book of his that we reviewed, The Heat, featured a protagonist who was damaged from broken relationships and drug abuse. Carter Thompson has some of the same demons, though he is a very different character than Jake from The Heat. While Jake was trying to become a better version of himself, we get the feeling that there is still a lot of room for growth in Carter. He is a smart, dogged, and in his own way incorruptible investigator. But he also has dark recesses full of violence and fueled by speed. And although these vices do not stop him from solving this case (though leaving room for the main antagonist to return in a future book), they threaten to overwhelm and wreck him.
