2.5 stars. I remember reading the first issue of this when it came out and the making a mental note to buy the trade when it came out. I really enjoyed the first issues of this one and I was looking forward to seeing where this post-apocalyptic world would go. I found out through the next four issues, but they just didn’t hit as well as the first issue did. I found this one to be very middle-of-the-road.

Damaged copy from work, decided to give it a try, would’ve preferred I never picked it up.

How is it that men always insist on writing women and just… write that fetishy fantasy they try to critique? Boooo thumbs down.

Pretty art though.

I wanted Lupe's relationship with the monsters to be developed more, and the ending seemed abrupt, but overall this was entertaining.

Heart Eyes: The Complete Series by Dennis Hopeless centers on a young girl, Lupe,l who wanders around San Antonio in a post apocalypse world. The world has been taken over by monsters that consume humans and their brains. Humanity is at the brink of collapse with the few remaining survivors focused on surviving instead of fighting back.

Rico spots another person, Lupe, wandering around the rubble. He is curious to know how she survived and why she is smiling. He knows that no one smiles and laughs anymore, especially in the streets where the monsters can get you. Rico finds himself attracted to her and wants to know more about her. How is Lupe able to walk around in the open without being food for the monsters?

The graphic novel was a quick read but I thought the story didn’t explain much. The ending was predictable and a bit of a let down. I wish the story went into more detail about why Lupe was able to do certain things. I didn’t really care for any of the characters mostly because they didn’t seem developed enough. The graphics were realistic and well drawn. The graphic novel has gore and adult content that might not make it suitable for young readers.

Heart Eyes: The Complete Series is a graphic novel written by author, Dennis Hopeless I appreciated their imagination all throughout the book. There are a diverse set of characters that are involved in this intriguing tale. It was full of adventure, danger, and action. I liked that there are some life lessons within the pages. A good story to read.

Heart Eyes: The Complete Series is illustrated by the talented artist, Víctor Ibáñez. The graphics all throughout the book were appealing to the eye and perfectly went with the story. They greatly help the plot flow.

I am giving Heart Eyes: The Complete Series three and a half stars stars. I believe adult fans of graphic novels of monsters and a evil beings will want to give it a try. I would be interested to meeting these characters again in the future.

I received a paperback copy of Heart Eyes: The Complete Series from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Thank you @rockatarbooktours @vaultcomics for having me on this booktour.

My kids 👧🏻👦🏻 read this in one sitting and they thought this graphic novel is quirky.

👧🏻 review: I read manga and this one is up to that level. The story is a bit weird but the graphic is very good. The story makes you want to read the next page because I feel the need to read more. The story of course is a bit sci-fi-ish and I really enjoyed it. A 4.5⭐️

👦🏻 review: I also read manga but more on graphic novel like Dog Man etc. This book is a bit different and I also like the realistic graphic. Some sexy pictures but the graphic is really realistic. Do I have to remind you that I read manga too? I give a 4⭐️ on the monsters eating human apocalypse. What if zombie apocalypse happened someday?

You might be wondering why my kids read and review this is because I don’t believe in banning books as long as they read something rather than nothing. They both read it several times and heard them talking about the monsters rather than the graphics; thus, I asked them to write their reviews. Overall a 4-star from my kids!

Lupe struggles with mental issues which manifest into cosmic horrors that plague the world. She acts as a conduit between dimensions, and though she feels like she can do better about it, she ends up succumbing to her worst impulses. I'll credit the book for trying something a bit different - this is very much a comic where the protagonist is also the villain, and it never really backs down from that point. Lupe is sympathetic at times, but ultimately she is the tool that unleashes endless horror. However, the plot isn't really as interesting as the premise and after the second issue or so, I felt pretty bored by this. Víctor Ibáñez is really carrying this book as much as he can with his artwork, which is energetic and vibrant. The monster designs are highly varied and detailed, so if you're just here to admire a book about Lovecraftian horrors, this will be for you. Otherwise, this was pretty forgettable horror shlock.

Quick read, loved the drawings, especially of Lupe and the monsters coming together. However, the description talks about Rico and Luke’s adventure and a love story. Since the eventual love interest didn’t come out until the last chapter or two, and Rico dies pretty soon, I was pretty confused and thought that maybe the love story was going to eventually some kind of self-love between her and the monster. This is not a “diverse” book just because there’s some Latinx characters. And for as much as they didn’t want to make her a stereotypical manic pixie dream girl, they put her boobs pretty front and center and had her kiss Rico immediately. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Not impressed, but loved the wrath she eventually showed.

HEART EYES is a short, intriguing comic series with a weird, lazy ending. I loved the Lovecraftian vibe, and I loved Lupe, a girl with all sorts of problems, and don't let me get started on her past—because it's complicated. Yes, Lupe's backstory gets explained—and it's a crazy one.

The vibrantly well-done illustrations by Victor Ibáñez are the driving force in HEART EYES, and the monster illustrations are my favorite parts. The artwork outdoes the story, which is more complicated (there's that word again) than it should have been. Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading HEART EYES for its bold, zany apocalyptic tale about a lonely girl. ╌★★★★✰

Started interesting but went to stupid fast starting in issue 2 and just got worse from there. Story about a psychopath girl with numerous forms of mental deficiency that is friends with the monsters destroying humanity; seems to be a metaphor for the problems caused by mental illness. The ideas behind this book are why the current generations glorify mental health issues. It's not a healthy read for the impressionable or the struggling. The ending just kind of hand waves away the protagonist's terrible behavior.
FYI: Everyone is responsible for their own actions, no one gets a pass, not even for mental illness.

A well-paced inter-dimensional fantasy horror tale about a young woman, called Lupe, exploited since a young age, and after her mother dies, trapped with her old white 'uncle' a devotee of the dark arts using a (generic) tome of forbidden knowledge, which Lupe becomes linked to and the physical portal for monsters feeders to ravage the Earth...although that highlights my biggest problem with the book; it's entirely American focus, although due to Lupe not even knowing how to drive it can be forgiven.
Victor Ibañez's artwork is fantastic and his realisation of the monsters is a stand out part of the book.

The graphics were very well drawn in this graphic novel. I loved the story of Lupe and her monsters. It was such a well written comic/graphic novel. The story follows Lupe as she struggles not to be so alone in a world of monsters, who feed on fear. There is a back story to Lupe and how she comes to be wandering the world totally alone and how she stays that way. I want a second story to find out more about Eddie and see where the story heads in another novel, however I know that this is a complete series book. But a good ending to this novel overall!

I did really like this. The art was absolutely fantastic! The story was a little hard for me to follow, less so because of the plot but because of the characters themselves. I think the reader knows just about as much as Lupe knows, is suspended from the events the same way she is. I just upped my rating from 3-star to 4 as I'm writing this, because I think the fogginess of character and events is purposeful. I do think that it takes away from the overall story because it's not obvious that you're seeing the world the way Lupe does, so it comes across as shallow. But I enjoyed it.

This is very violent and full of Lovecraftian monsters tearing people apart. The series was interesting. It could have used another issue or two to flesh it out more. It's about this girl who can control the monsters that have ended the world and how she's looking for someone else who isn't afraid of them. There's some deeper meanings as well if you want to read more into it. The art is very good.

The art is this is brutal and glorious!! Now this is an author that I would BEG to create my Cthulhu tattoo that I want! The story is also brutal and honestly, fun. So, whether you're looking for your own maniac pixie dream girl or just a fucked up child desperate for connection, or overlord. This book has it all!

Definitely entertaining. I wanted more self-understanding by the end, and it seems like all of these serials always just decide “let’s wrap it up” in two issues. It was a fun journey for people that like dark monster stuff and the stand out moments were the unspoken glimpses into her past, but the present wasn’t fleshed out enough for me to fall in love.

The relationships with the monsters and Eddie weren’t really developed and these developments would have added a lot to the story. There was an attempt of an explanation about the connection between Lupe and the monsters, but I still don’t fully understand it. Either way, I still found myself enjoying the story through the end. It feels unfinished and I wish there was more!

3.5 Cool story that I thought could be and would be carried on through many issues. The art is so good, especially given the sort of organic, thing-style creatures the world is built around. There's some predictability but also really great surprises. I'm ultimately bummed it wrapped up in one volume.

3.5/5
I’m docking a full point for the ending, it’s a lazy one. Either that or Hopeless had a major brain fart to actually imagine it’s in any way good.

The journey’s great though, especially the beginning, it really starts with a bang. I loved Lupe and the art was sick.

Literally wtf did I just read? I was so confused almost the whole time and I feel like we didn’t get enough back story about Lupe. I feel like this could’ve been fleshed out better, but I’m glad I at least gave it a shot.

Other people's reviews have summarized this comic well. Great art and premise. Story starts out interesting and gets worse the longer the comic progresses. The ending is unfulfilling and has one twist too many. I definitely don't regret the read though.

3.5 stars rounding up because I think it sticks the landing which is tough to do in a single volume complete story. Lupe walks the post-apocalyptic landscape alone - except for the monsters who ate everyone during the end of the world. A truly effed-up tale in a way that somehow works.

The art was good and carried the story. The monster designs were imaginative and disturbing. The story was readable but nothing memorable. The ending was cliche and disappointing.

Great art, more of a 3.5 but there just wasn’t that much there there for me. I was pretty emotionally and mentally checked out from this story.

The art was really nice and I loved the concept but due to the shortness of the comic and overall the flat characters, this was just okay

I would really love to see this in a more fleshed out series since it has potential
